Two ways to prepare your map
Download a Mapbox area
Select Mapbox in the app, open offline maps and download the area while you have a connection.
Bring your own map package
Have a compatible MBTiles or PMTiles raster package? Open offline maps, expand your own map packages and import the file. Review the preview, then activate it for the map.
A short check before leaving
- Prepare the whole exercise area, including the route to the start.
- Check the package’s area, zoom levels and source information. Use map material you are allowed to use.
- Try the prepared area in airplane mode and zoom to the level you will need.
- Keep enough battery and free storage for the recording.
Your usual workflow stays familiar
The imported package is saved on this device; your original file stays intact. A source note remains visible. Activate or deactivate the package in offline maps and return to your previous map provider. Prepare each device that needs the map separately.
Offline maps help with preparation. They do not guarantee complete map coverage or replace your team’s operational procedures.
FAQ
Which packages can I import?
MBTiles and PMTiles v3 raster packages with PNG or JPEG tiles. Vector packages are not supported. The package determines the available area and zoom levels.
Do I need Premium?
Yes. Prepared Mapbox offline downloads and importing your own raster packages are Premium features.
Is a map I viewed earlier available offline?
A provider may cache some viewed tiles, but coverage can be incomplete or disappear. Use a prepared download or imported package and test it before leaving.
Does live tracking work without reception?
Live sharing needs an internet connection. Local recording and prepared map material remain separate from live delivery.

Test the prepared map on the device you will use
Decide which area and zoom levels you need before leaving. On every required device, check the completed download or activated raster package. Open the area in flight mode and check the route to the start as well.
MBTiles/PMTiles containing vector tiles are not supported raster packages. A successful import alone does not prove the required area is included. Live sharing, sign-in and synchronization still need reception.
